For many years Maple Leaf Inc. has provided beautiful green lawns to thousands of customers, from homeowners, to commercial sites and athletic fields, we strive to be the best!

Our sod is not produced by us, we use a couple local sod farms in our area. The sod raised on these farms comes from an elite blend of seeds which make the Kentucky Blue grass we install today more disease resistant, drought resistant and more tolerant to heavy traffic. One of the types of sod we use is grown on dark block soil and the other on peat soil. Our professional landscape staff can help you choose the best fit for your scenario whether it’s sod or seed we will deliver you a beautiful green lawn.

Seeding

We use the finest seed available to us. Our professionals will help make the right choice when it comes to picking the right seed product for your particular area. Seed installed by us will be sown into soil by hand raking or machine in some cases. We leave you with a 5 pound bag of seed after we complete seeding your yard. When To Water New Turfgrass Sod

Water is essential to all life ... too little water and we die, too much and we drown. The same is true of the grass in our lawns. Water makes up 70% to 80% of the weight of our lawn grasses and the clippings alone are nearly 90% water. While most people are concerned about not watering their lawns enough, the fact is that more lawns are damaged or destroyed by over-watering.

The first watering of newly ailed turfgrass sod is the most important. Begin watering immediately after installation of the new turf grass. The first watering establishes how well the grass will perform for years to come.

It is essential to begin watering new turfgrass sod within a half hour after it is laid on the soil. Apply at least 1 in. (2.5 cm) of water so that the soil beneath the turf is very wet. Ideally, the soil 3 to 4 in. (7 to 10 cm) below the surface will be moist.

Watering difficult areas such as slopes and under trees requires some special attention to achieve maximum benefit and a beautiful lawn.

Caring For Your Newly Seeded Lawn

Don’t forget to actively water your newly seeded lawn!

General Watering Instructions:

After grass seed is sown, it should be watered daily for 14-21 days to ensure proper germination. You should water approximately 1/8 inch per day. If you are not able to water your lawn the seed will not germinate, but it could sit for well over a month while awaiting a sufficient amount of rain. (We offer an option to install an automatic watering system in your yard temporarily for an additional charge.) The amount of seed that will actually grow reduces with the amount of time it sits on the ground. After the seed germinates, follow a normal water schedule.
